Employees Living in Irondequoit Sought to Try Direct Park N' Ride

Park n' ride signWith the Greece Park n’ Ride off to a successful start - averaging about 32 riders each way - the Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority (RGRTS) is now also considering offering a non-stop shuttle between Irondequoit and URMC/Highland Hospital.

Fee for this service would be $1 each way, amounting to considerable savings in terms of fuel and parking permits over the course of the year.

Occasional parker privileges (24 passes per year, provided free of charge) would be issued for use on days when riders need their car parked on premises. Should riders choose to stop using the RGRTS service during a trial period, the Parking Office would reinstate URMC parking privileges to their original lots.

As RGRTS planners are evaluating possible schedules and pick-up/drop-off locations, the Parking Office is trying to determine how many employees would regularly use this express shuttle service. If you are seriously open to exploring this option and would like to be kept informed as plans progress, just visit the Parking Web site, click “Online Parking Services,” select “Add Waitlists,” and choose “RTS Irondequoit Shuttle.”

Increased demand for this service would pave the way for multiple pick-up times, creating greater convenience for riders, while also introducing an environmentally-friendly solution to the strain on our parking resources. If successful, it could continue to be replicated in other area suburbs.

Suburban Plaza/Medical Center Bus May also Appeal to Some Employees

Additionally, URMC employees living in Henrietta may be interested to know the RGRTS currently offers an RTS bus (“Route 91”) that in part runs between Suburban Plaza (2199 East Henrietta Road) and the Medical Center (via East Drive, at the RTS stop closest to Goler House). While not a non-stop route, and not exclusive to servicing Medical Center employees, the trip is still brief and costs only $1 each way. Employees could park at Suburban Plaza, which is a designated RTS Park n’ Ride lot.

In the morning, two buses leave Suburban Plaza: one at 6:49 a.m., and another at 7:29 a.m., stopping at URMC at 7:04 a.m. and 7:48 a.m., respectively. In the evenings, buses on this route also pick-up at URMC (again, via East Drive) at two times: 5:09 p.m. and 5:33 p.m., arriving at the Plaza at 5:23 p.m. and 5:47 p.m., respectively.
