To make way for construction of the new Golisano Children’s Hospital, some existing departments and critical access-points will move, affecting patients, visitors and families, vendors, suppliers and staff.
Please consult this page as needed. It will be updated regularly to reflect location and/or procedure changes. While we have made every effort to be as detailed as possible, additional inquiries should be directed to the appropriate department.
Special directions and way-finding information for URMC vendors can be found at the bottom of this list.
A SUMMARY OF KEY CHANGES
-
Effective Nov. 5, SMH Patient Discharge will be permanently located on the ground floor near the Silver Elevators.
-
The Crittenden Drive entrance to the James P. Wilmot Cancer, as well as the Patient Discharge/Cath Lab entrance, will close for construction on Nov. 5. This will affect: patients being discharged; patients arriving for treatment in the Cath Lab; bus schedules and stops (both RTS and our own staff shuttles); providers of medical transportation, and vendors making deliveries.
-
The Cashier’s Office is now located on the first floor of Strong Memorial Hospital, across from the Director’s Office, near the Chase ATM and Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters bar.
-
Effective Oct. 8, RTS and S1 shuttle changes will impact patients, staff and visitors. Jackson Drive will be the new patient drop-off location.
-
Personal vehicles that are picking-up staff or discharging staff must use the Medical School entrance to help reduce traffic congestion.
Patient Discharge: New Location (Effective Nov. 5)
Patient Discharge soon will be located on the ground floor of the Medical Center, accessible from a new traffic loop directly off East Drive. Valet parking will be available for patients. With permission, deliveries and drop-offs may be made for 15-minute flasher parking. Providers of medical transportation also will use this newly developed loop for drop-off and pick-up. Oversized vehicles and medical transportation over 24 feet in length will need to use the Jackson Drive entrance off Elmwood Avenue. Additional inquiries should be directed to Social Work staff at (585) 275-2851.

RTS and Greece Shuttle Buses: New Stops Became Effective Oct. 8
On Oct. 8, Rochester Transit buses 8, 5, 12, 18 and 19, and URMC’s Greece S1 shuttle began making stops at Jackson Drive. The S1 shuttle will continue to stop at the Whipple loop. This requires all staff drop-off and pick-up to move to the Medical School entrance (the small traffic loop with the "crooked," silver clock). Also on Oct. 8, patients being dropped off for appointments began using the Jackson Drive entrance instead of the Crittenden Boulevard entrance.
Cath Lab: New Drop-off Point (Effective Nov. 5)
Soon, patient drop-off will need to be made at the main entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital, located off Elmwood Avenue on Jackson Drive. Patients should be directed to use the Green Elevators that will take them to the ground floor. These elevators are located just past the hospital lobby. Patient Discharge will take place at new Patient Discharge, to be located at the traffic loop off East Drive. All ambulant traffic will be directed to Patient Discharge.
Personal Vehicles Picking-Up, Discharging Staff Went into Effect Oct. 8
Because so much traffic is being diverted to other access points, it's important that staff riding in personal vehicles use the lot entrance to the Medical School. There is a convenient area where a driver can pull in and discharge or pick up a passenger. It is just to the left of the glass doors.
Vendors and Service Providers: New Drop-off Points (Effective Nov. 5)
